Stoneware with cream-colored glaze and gold lion head handles. Japanese figures in brocade-like colors decorate the sides and top. Satsuma pottery for domestic Japanese markets contained minimal ornamentation. Pieces designed for Victorian tastes had many decorative embellishments, particularly in gold, including reliefs of warriors or geisha, famous landscapes, and dragons.
