French plaque, made of metal alloy with a polychrome finish. Depicts bust of Asian man in relief holding a parasol looking to the left. He wears a floral brocade kimono. Plaque marked "Hottot". Artist: Louis Hottot, French (1834-1905). Hottot exhibited his work at the Paris Salon from 1885-1898. Henry Plant probably viewed and purchased this bronze while in Paris for the 1889 Universal Exposition. Auction records reveal that this was made as a set. This missing mate is an Asian female made to face the male.
