"'George Washington Ate Here': 'Oriental' Luxuries in Amerian Culture"

Distinguished scholar John Kuo Wei Tchen, Ph.D., directs the Rutgers University Clement A. Price Institute on Ethnicity, Culture, and the Modern Experience. A founder of the Museum of Chinese in America, Dr. Tchen is the author of several works, including New York Before Chinatown: Orientalism and the Shaping of American Culture, 1776-1882. This 2023 lecture marked the opening of a special exhibit at the Henry B. Plant Museum, entitled Imagined East: Decorative Arts and the Imperial Gaze.
