As a part of the programming for our current "Imperfect Harmony: Man, Machine and Music at the Tampa Bay Hotel", Matt Weihmuller will be giving a presentation on our Free Saturday. He is a jazz saxophonist from Tampa, Florida, attended the H.W. Blake High School of the Arts, and then moved to Tallahassee, where he completed both his undergraduate education (magna cum laude) and Master’s of Music degrees at Florida State University. He describes the presentation as follows:
"Most people would associate music with the ear or voice, rather than the finger, even though a great deal of music is actually made with the fingertip from the piano, to the strings, to woodwind and brass instruments. For the blind musician, The finger is even more important, because this is how the music is seen through braille."
Come hear this local musician speak and then explore our fascinating exhibit! See antique and rare mechanical instruments while learning about the names, faces, and stories of the performing artists who etched concerts and celebrations into local community memory.
Hear a demonstration of the Orchestrion each week on Wednesdays at noon and Saturdays at 11 am.
This exhibit is generously underwritten by Raymond James, In Memory of Art Keeble, The Bank of Tampa, TECO, and the Henry B. Plant Museum, Society, Inc.
